The environmental cleanup of the Seattle City Light-owned building and site began on site in October 2004 and was completed in April 2005. The first operations fully enclosed the existing building so that contaminants from electric utility use of the building since 1930 could be safely removed. After completion of the cleanup, the property was transferred from City Light to Seattle Parks and Recreation on August 31, 2005.
