On July 29, 2002 Seattle City Council unanimously approved Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund funding to acquire the Mt. Baker Ridge viewpoint and preserve it as Parks property. This site has panoramic views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains, and was nominated by residents from the Mount Baker neighborhood. On January 9, 2003, Seattle Parks and Recreation completed the purchase of the property from Washington State Department of Transportation with funds from the first cycle of the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund. The community received a Small and Simple Neighborhood Matching Grant to plan for the future of this view site. In September 2005 Seattle City Council approved $250,000 through the second cycle of the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund toward park development of this site.

As shown in the photos above, Mount Baker citizen David

through the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund. They hosted a display at
the Pro Parks Oversight Committee open house in early 2002, which was
focused on acquisition nominations for the first funding cycle of the
Opportunity Fund. Also shown above is the panoramic view from the site.
In 2003, the property was acquired by Seattle Parks and Recreation. The community obtained a Neighborhood Matching Fund grant to plan for future uses at the site. ( RETURN
