PROJECT STATUS
May 2009
Construction is complete! The official park opening celebration
is June 13, 2009, however, the community has been enjoying the
new neighborhood gathering space since the fences came down in
April.
Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has replaced the
sidewalk and curb adjacent to the park. Parks will be finalizing
the integration of the sidewalk along Eddy Street with the park.
Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs (Arts) collaborated
with SDOT on a sidewalk project. Arts installed an interactive
sidewalk chalk gallery, featuring low profile gallery style frames
stamped into the concrete. The paving within the park incorporates
a much simpler frame pattern in the concrete scoring, which is
also suitable for chalk art.
The design features a piazza-like space with green edges, a U-shaped
public gathering space with seating, a central lawn and a specimen
tree located on a prominent corner of the property.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project, part of the 2000 Parks Levy, develops a newly acquired
property located at the northwest corner of California Ave SW and
SW Beveridge Pl. into a new park or plaza. Originally the Levy named
Morgan Substation as the likely purchase however, the owner of this
site, City Light, decided that the location was required for providing
electrical utility service for the foreseeable future. Parks then
pursued the purchase of this new property, which was a former Monorail
acquisition.
The Parks Naming Committee named the park Morgan Junction Park
in May 2009 after receiving 17 nominations from the community.
