Seattle Parks participated in a walking tour of the Wedgwood neighborhood in northeast Seattle with members of the Wedgwood, Ravenna-Bryant and View Ridge Community Councils; Council members Clark and Conlin; and City staff from SDOT, DON and DPD in early December 2011. The purpose of the walking tour was to explain the transition the neighborhood has been undergoing and request guidance and support from City departments and council on the implementation of the recently completed Wedgwood Vision Plan.

Parks discussed the status of their effort to acquire a new neighborhood park acquisition at NE 86th St and 35th Ave NE from City Light, funded by the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy.

Seattle City Light is performing environmental clean up on the property before selling the property. Parks anticipates closing on this site in early 2013.

The 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy allocates funding for the acquisition of properties, such as this, in areas that have been identified in the Seattle Parks Department 2006 Development Plan and Gap Analysis as being deficient in open space.

Project Description

The Parks and Green Spaces Levy provides $24 million for the acquisition of neighborhood parks in up to 20 identified areas throughout the City. The Wedgwood Neighborhood northeast of Dahl Playfield was included in that list.
