The Ninth Avenue Neighbors (NAN) received a Small and Simple Neighborhood Matching Fund (NMF) award from the Department of Neighborhoods to hire a consultant to work with the community to develop a design plan and action agenda to resolve storm runoff problems with a natural system approach that provides safer pedestrian and park use.

NAN hired CREA and Affiliates as consultant. After three public meetings, walks through the area and discussion with neighbors, the following plan was created.

Project Description

This NMF project focuses on 9th Ave NE north of NE 105th Street. Ninth Avenue NE flows into and dead ends into Thornton Creek Park #6.

The project will create a design to:

• Alleviate the pooling at the end of 9th Ave NE
• Provide safer pedestrian use of 9th Ave NE and NE 105th as a route to buses
• Provide safer access to Thornton Creek Park #6 from 9th Ave NE
• Improve the natural area at the entrance of Park #6 at 9th Ave NE
• Provide a safer, more defined entrance and trail that connects to Roosevelt Ave NE
• Provide a more diverse habitat of native plants for wildlife
