Project Status

July 2009
Seattle Parks and Recreation held a second community meeting on July 21, 2009 to present design changes and gather community input. The project has been publicly bid and Parks will award the contract with revisions based on input received at the community meetings. Below are the revisions:

1) Design change (location and layout) - line drawing to right
2) Square footage will be reduced by approximately 100 sq. ft.
3) Sensor light to be installed and directed at site
4) Addition of a grass bridge over the drainage berm for pedestrian access from ball fields
5) Parks commitment to maintaining vegetation for line of sight from 25th to skatespot

This community initiated project was awarded a Neighborhood Matching Grant for a skatespot in 2006. This grant was used to hire a consultant for the creation of a schematic design.

When skatepark funds became available Parks moved forward to implement the project. Parks put out a public Request for Qualifications (RFQ) in May 2008 and contracted with New Line/Van der Zalm consultants to complete the design of the site and provide construction administration. The previous designers, Skate Parkitecture, Landscape Architects was no longer in business. New Line / Van der Zalm advised Parks that the previous design had some safety issues. They were directed to keep the elements and given approval to provide more space between elements for safety, flow and capacity reasons.
