Project Status

January - February 2013
After community input, this project has grown to include new elements and phases.

• Phase 1 - Trail improvements, landscaping, new pathway improvements and the addition of 23 new pathway light fixtures. Phase 1 will be complete late December 2012.
• Phase 2 consists of 2 new entrance plazas, a new zip-line and minor pathway improvements for ADA compliance. Phase 2 will start in September 2012 and be complete January 2013.
• Phase 3 renovates the existing comfort station for ADA compliance and long term maintenance repairs of new lighting, pluming and roof. Phase 3 will be complete spring 2013.

Seattle Parks removed Hawthorn trees, generally referred to as Thorny-hedge. Tree removal is intended to improve sight lines and visibility in and through the park. The decision to remove these trees followed three public meetings, and three Project Advisory Team meetings.

At the third public meeting on Nov. 8, 2010 Parks announced that a Project Advisory Team would be established to review lighting recommendations. For a full record of the meeting please see notes below.

The Project Advisory Team was formed and has met three times. Their goal is to review and inform the final schematic design. Notes from the first and second meeting are below.

Seattle Parks and Recreation participated in the Othello Park International Music & Art Festival on Sunday, August 22, 2010 to gather information from the community on this project.

Project Description

This project will improve safety and lighting for the overall park with Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) practices and other elements or changes.
