Project Status

Spring 2014

Construction of the play area lasted through the winter. The play area officially opened up on March 13 and shortly afterwards it was being explored by the neighborhood kids. One report from a seven year old stated, This is the best play area ever! Another report from a mother stated this about the opening day, Just so you know - 4 hours.... our sons spent 4 hours at the playground and were both asleep by 7:20 p.m. without fuss .... Thank you!

In addition to the Play Area Renovation Project, the community group Montlake Family Fitness is applying for grants to fund construction of a sports court and adult exercise equipment. They have been successfully approved for a Neighborhood Matching Fund award and a King County Sports Facility Grant. More information can be found at

The Parks and Green Spaces Levy allocates $550,000 for the planning, design and construction for this project.
Planning: Spring/Summer 2012
Design: Fall 2012 - Spring 2013
Construction: Fall 2013
Completion: Winter 2013

Project Description

This project will provide for replacement of play equipment, access improvements and other work at this existing play area.

The scope of this project brings the play area into compliance with current play area safety standards and guideline efforts of the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) as well as meets the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Community Participation

The preferred schematic design was presented on Wednesday, December 5 at the third meeting.
