Thank you Seattle! This project is complete.
Seattle Parks removed the fencing from around the Matthews Beach Play Area on December 9, 2010 and the play area has been swarmed with kids of all ages ever since.

The design was completed by Seattle Parks Landscape Architect, R. Frank Robinson, and built by contractor Spiritridge.

There are features for the youngest kids with a new climbing structure, relocated spring toys, and a new sand digging area naturally situated under the redwood trees. Older kids can enjoy a large climbing structure and a new rock climbing experience. There are new and more swings for everyone! A lookout tower is nestled in a grove of redwood trees that overlooks a new family picnic area complete with barbeque. The entire play area and picnic area is fully accessible. An ADA "Yellow Swing" is on order and will be installed when it arrives.

Project Description

The Parks and Green Spaces Levy has identified $450,000 for the renovation of the existing play area. The focus of this project is to provide access and use improvements that will provide better site circulation, and make the park and play area desirable to gather and play.
