Project Status

Thank you Seattle! This project is complete.

Skaters swarmed the park on Thursday, January 12, 2012 when the construction fencing was removed around the park. It is a great park with an 11 deep bowl, deepest in town to date, and a complicated hexagonal dish that appears to float in the air.

Three community design meetings were held throughout 2010 and the community process is complete.

Grindline in collaboration with The Berger Partnership developed a preferred design based on input from the community, Parks maintenance and staff. Some of the main features of the park include a deep bowl alongside shallower bowls, a shallow hexagonal elevated dish, and streetscape features. For meeting notes and concepts please see below.

Spring 2012 UPDATE
After having had a chance to use the park, many skaters have reported back to Parks that the lighting levels could be higher. The design team met on site after dark with one of the skaters to see what the comments were about. We're currently working with the contractor to get a price to add fixtures to the existing poles and hope to make this improvement. Thanks for letting us know!

Project Description

The focus of this project is to provide for the design and construction of a new skate park facility as identified in the Citywide Skatepark Plan and funded by the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy.

This project upholds Parks' Strategic Action Plan by encouraging healthy and active lifestyles, addresses the requests of skateboarders to have more skate parks within the city, and adds to the variety of recreational uses available at this wonderful new city park.

The general design criteria is to create a skate park for people of all ages and skill levels. The park will provide enough interest to keep users coming back as they master new skills and grow in the sport.

Some of the main features of the park include a deep bowl alongside shallower bowls, a shallow hexagonal elevated dish, and streetscape features. Lighting will be included as an additive bid item. If bids come in low enough to afford the lighting, it will be completed.
