Project Status

Thank you Seattle. This acquisition is complete.
After working with the community and holding a public meeting in November 2009, Seattle Parks purchased the mini-mart site at Greenwood Ave N and N 81st Street. The property was acquired in May 2012. In July 2015 purchase of the additional property at 8118 Greenwood Ave N was completed.

GREENWOOD PARK (N 87th & Fremont Ave N)
The City purchased the 2.2 acre main Greenwood park property in 1999 as part of the Open Space and Trails Bond program. At the time of the acquisition, there were 4 in-holdings on the east boundary of the park, each developed with a house. It has always been a long term goal of both the community and the Parks Department to acquire the 4 in-holding properties and is included in their neighborhood plan.

The 2000 Pro-Parks levy provided funding to acquire two of the properties and develop the park, which was completed in 2003. In 2009, a master plan was developed for the park which included the remaining two parcels.

In May 2013, one of the in-holding properties suddenly went on the market and Parks acquired the property in November 2013.

Project Description

The Parks and Green Spaces Levy provides $24 million for the acquisition of neighborhood parks in up to 20 identified areas throughout the City. The Greenwood-Phinney Residential Urban Village was included in that list.
