Project Status

Thank you Seattle! This project is complete.
Seattle Parks and Recreation finished renovations at Genesee Field #1, which was a complete renovation, and opened the field to the public on October 18, 2010 for play. Field #2, which was a resurfacing project, opened at the beginning of September. Both projects were completed ahead of schedule.

Seattle Parks awarded the construction contract to Specialized Landscaping Inc. and issued the Notice to Proceed on June 28, 2010. Parks anticipates the field will open in October 2010.

The City received good bids for the renovation of Playfield #1. This allowed for the funding needed to resurface playfield #2. This turf replacement project was a priority for the community and Seattle Parks and Recreation. The original turf had reached the end of its useful life and required replacement. The newly surfaced field will support soccer and both women’s and men’s lacrosse.

A public meeting was held on October 22, 2009 at the Rainier Community Center. Over 25 people attended the meeting and offered their input on the design.

Project Description

This Parks and Green Spaces Levy project will renovate Genesee Playfield #1 and #2.

The improvement project for Playfield #1 includes:

• Replacement of the existing all-weather sand/silt field with synthetic turf.
• Fields/Striping for adult soccer and football.
• Maintaining ADA access from the field to the ADA accessible restrooms.
