ABOUT THE BOARD

The Seattle Board of Park Commissioners is a volunteer advisory board established by ordinance.  The Board consults with and makes recommendations to City Council, the Mayor, and the Superintendent regarding the Parks and Recreation Department's policies for the planning, development and use of the City's park and recreation facilities.

PUBLIC MEETINGS

The Board of Park Commissioners meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board will take place Thursday, July 10th at 7 p.m. in the Park Board Room in Denny Park at 100 Dexter Ave N.

Park Board to extend testimony on Proposed Pilot for Selected Summer Road Closures.

At its June 26 meeting, the Board of Park Commissioners recommended to the Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent that the Department implement the summer road closure pilot at Seward and Volunteer Parks. The Board delayed its discussion and recommendation on the proposal to expand Lake Washington Boulevard closures as part of the pilot until its July 10 meeting.

The Park Commissioners will continue accepting written comments through July 9. (See link below for instructions on submitting written testimony.) The Board will not accept any additional verbal testimony on this proposal at the July 10 meeting.

The Board will also hear briefings on:

Quarterly Briefing on Seattle Parks and Recreation's Project and Planning Division

Briefing on a Park Naming Proposal
  1. Amend Freeway Park name to Jim Ellis Freeway Park
  2. Amend Queen Anne Pool name to Mayor George Clinton Queen Anne Pool
The Park Naming briefing is to be followed by a public hearing on the naming proposal on July 25 and discussion and recommendation to the Superintendent on August 14.
