SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

In the late summer of 2013 as Seattle Public Utilities works in adjacent Beer Sheva Park. The Lower Mapes Creek Restoration Project will move the creek from a storm drain into a separate pipe and then restore approximately 350 feet of the creek into an open, natural channel through the park to Lake Washington.

Although use of the boat ramp will not be affected, a portion of the north end of the parking lot may be used to stage equipment and material; so, some parking might be reduced during construction. Construction is currently is planned for August, 2013 – November, 2014.

This SPU project will increase the quality and amount of habitat for threatened juvenile Chinook salmon by creating additional stream and riparian habitat. It will also provide an environmental amenity in the park for visitors to enjoy and experience.

ABOUT THE PARK

Atlantic City Boat Ramp is one of Seattle Parks and Recreation's launching sites for power boats. Located in a protected cove along Seward Park Avenue at the intersection of S Henderson Street in the Rainier District, Atlantic City is the southernmost Seattle boat ramp on Lake Washington. Atlantic City is a wide ramp with plenty of dock space that can accommodate up to six launches and/or retrievals at a time. This site is also home to many different birds, waterfowl and wetland animals so please be careful around their sensitive habitat.

Atlantic City is located in a protected cove south of Beer Sheva Park on the Pritchard Island peninsula. The speed limit in the cove is 3 knots. Look for a new sign with information about Personal Watercraft (also known as "jet skis") rules, laws, and general boating courtesy, thanks in part to a grant from the Washington State Parks Commission.

HISTORY

Atlantic City, named after the New Jersey city in 1905, was the end of the line for the Seattle trolley that traveled along what is now Rainier Avenue. Atlantic City is also said to be the birthplace of Princess Angeline, Daughter of Chief Seattle.
