ABOUT THE PARK

Sandel Park's features include a children's play area, walkways, large open meadow, basketball hoops, and a wading pool.

Acreage: 3.7

HISTORY

Purchased in 1969, Sandel was Greenwood's first playground. In a petition of the community, the playground was named in honor of Neil J. Sandel, a Greenwood District Community and Business leader, and former superintendent of Greenwood Ave Sewer District who spent much of his life in the greenhouse business. He was a member of the Roosevelt High School Varsity Football and Baseball teams. (Edited from the files of Don Sherwood, 1916-1981, Park Historian.)
