ABOUT THE PARK

One of Seattle's stunning viewpoints, Emma Schmitz Overlook is a great place to stroll, jog, or sit and gaze across the water at the Olympic Mountains.

HISTORY

Emma Schmitz Memorial Overlook was donated in 1945 by Emma Schmitz "for park...and no other purpose whatsoever."

Schmitz (1864-1959) arrived in Seattle just after the Great Fire of 1889 to marry Ferdinand. They and their children became "assiduous builders of the city and region". The children became a University president, a banker and an industrialist.
