SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE GLARE

During non-daylight hours, please limit your time on the boat ramp. When parked at an angle on the boat ramp, your bright headlights shine directly into the homes across the street. So, if you need extra time to prepare your boat, we encourage you to use the flat staging area closer to the street. Headlights are required for any vehicle in operation and to allow your vehicle to be seen by others, so we are not suggesting that headlight be turned off.

ABOUT THE PARK

Located on Harbor Avenue and Maryland Street south of the Duwamish Head, Don Armeni is the most popular of Seattle's saltwater boat ramps. Don Armeni's close proximity to many favorite fishing spots on the south end of Marine Area 10 and the other south Marine Areas makes it a popular ramp for fishers during salmon season. Another attraction is the view. From across Elliott Bay the Seattle waterfront looks spectacular, making Don Armeni a popular spot for ceremonies, photographers, and sightseers.

Acreage: 4.8

HISTORY

Don Armeni was most recently remodeled and expanded in 1984. Enhancements included paving the parking lot, creation of the view point and other cosmetic improvements. Additionally, a new electronic fee machine was installed in 1996 making payment of the boat launch fee faster and easier than ever. The machine will accept coins or bills ($1 or $5), provide change and issue a dated ticket.

Don Armeni Boat Ramp began as a graded street end of Maryland Street at the request of citizens interested in recreational fishing. The ramp was paved in 1954 by the Engineering Department with community donations. In 1955 the ramp was named in honor of a Deputy Sheriff killed in the line of duty. Besides being an avid fisherman, Don Armeni was active in the Boys Club, March of Dimes, athletic unions, Junior Olympics and made appearances on children's television shows.
