HISTORY

Melt-off from the Vashon Glacial Ice Sheet formed the huge Lake Russell which cut drainage ravines through the new glacial till, forming the Ravenna Park ravine. The Ravenna creek bed eventually went dry and the current outlet for the lake discharges into the trunk sewer line. Ravenna Creek was then filled in and in 1912 the center strip was improved by paving. Four years later it was decided that the “New York” plan would be pursued; a centerstrip with roadways on each side that was completed in 1925.
