Major Maintenance Project Information
Ballfield Lighting Replacement Program

Address: Garfield Playfield, Georgetown Playfield, Interbay Playfield, Hiawatha Playfield, Washington Park

Current Status

Garfield, Georgetown and Interbay will be designed in 2007 and built in 2008. The program will continue with the design of additional parks in 2008 to built in 2009. The parks to be built in 2009 will be determined as funding is appropriated.

Project Description

Budget: $4,188,000
Total Budget
Construction begins: First Quarter 2008
Project complete: Ongoing

This will fund installation of new electrical systems at numerous ballfields over a six year period. The new lighting systems will reduce light spillover and will be more energy efficient.

Fields planned for possible replacements in the 2007-2008 biennium include Garfield, Georgetown, Hiawatha, Interbay, Lower Woodland Field #2, and Washington. The Hiawatha and Washington fields will be coordinated with planned synthetic field conversions at those ballfields. Lighting systems to be replaced in 2009 and beyond will be prioritized based on pole stability, degree of field usage, and other factors. This program is part of a six-year plan to renovate ballfield lighting and fields throughout the parks system.

Future funding for this program depends on available resources. Operations and maintenance funding will be requested in future budgets.
