While visiting the park, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy a number of art works. The 350-acre Sand Point Peninsula (Warren G. Magnuson Park and the NOAA campus) is a wonderful showplace for outdoor art installations, both permanent and temporary.

In the summer of 1998, the Horsehead Sculpture Project sponsored a show of grand-scale art installations at Sand Point. In 1999 Horsehead and the Seattle Arts Commission held concurrent shows featuring more than 40 local, national and international artists. These site-wide exhibitions drew large numbers of visitors, inspiring some and puzzling others.

An example of a one-time only art experience was the Center on Contemporary Art's evening presentation of "The New Prometheans," an international fire art festival held at the park in early October 2000.

Warren G. Magnuson Park continues to encourage art exhibitions. We believe art adds to the rich experience available to you at the park-along with athletics, recreation and natural habitat. Working with Sand Point Arts and Cultural Exchange (SPACE), the Seattle and King County Arts Commissions, and visual art groups, we at Warren G. Magnuson Park look forward to offering many more visitors the chance to experience visual art at the park.

For information about plans to develop an artistic community within Warren G. Magnuson Park's Community Campus and the Fire House Artists Studio, see Projects - Arts, Culture and Education.
