A tennis center is a key part of the development plan for Magnuson Park, and Seattle Parks and the Sand Point Tennis Association are working in partnership to move the project forward.

The goal and vision of the Tennis Association and Seattle Parks is the development of an indoor and outdoor tennis facility at Sand Point that complements the physical beauty of the historic district, is accessible and affordable to all members of the community, and meets the growing needs and demands for tennis participation in the City of Seattle.

In 2001-02, a citizen's committee worked with Seattle Parks staff and consulting architects, Streeter & Associates, to develop a concept plan for 14 courts on a site within the park's historic district. The plan featured six indoor courts, four outdoor courts, and four courts with seasonal covering. Other features of the design were indoor and outdoor viewing decks, men's and women's locker rooms, meeting spaces, a kitchen, lounge area, and concessions. This design was reviewed by the Seattle Design Commission, the Seattle Sports Advisory Council, and the Board of Park Commissioners, and was also well received by the public at an open house in March 2002.

The 1999 Magnuson Park Concept Plan and the 2001 Athletic Fields Configuration Plan, both approved by the Seattle City Council, endorse the development of a tennis center at Magnuson Park. The Parks and Recreation Department funded the completion of the initial architectural design, but further development of the tennis center was not funded.

The Sand Point Tennis Association, a group of interested community members and tennis enthusiasts, has worked together over the since 2002 to promote development of a tennis center at Magnuson Park.

Seattle Court Sports Unlimited (SCSU) is proposing to fulfill a unique niche by offering Seattle’s only privately run, public indoor tennis facility. SCSU will initially operate 6 indoor courts housed inside an air-supported structure, 4 outdoor courts and a club house in a renovated building. SCSU has successfully negotiated a 30-year lease with City of Seattle. The facility will offer hourly court rental, tournaments, and special classes/lessons.
