About

Camp Long in West Seattle is a 68 acre park, an event rental space, and a place for activities like Environmental Education Programs and Nature Fieldtrips for groups large and small.

It's a lovely place to rent a cabin, learn and teach about the environment, take a 4H Challenge Ropes Course, or learn climbing techniques at Schurman Rock. It's also home to two great summer day camps for kids. The entrance is at SW Dawson & 35th SW.

Camp Long's rental facilities include a lodge with one meeting room, a kitchen, 10 cabins, two covered picnic areas, and a group fire ring. Programs at Camp Long are fun, interactive experiences for all ages.

History

Camp Long was once a little used corner of the West Seattle Golf Course. In 1937, a group comprising Park Board member Archie Phelps, Judge William Long, Ben Evans of the Parks Department and Clark Schurman, a well-known Scout leader, expert mountaineer and wilderness camp developer, embarked on a mission. They wanted to acquire and develop this land to make it into a place for organized scouting groups to learn camping skills. They were joined by a committee of representatives of youth groups, City Council members, other concerned citizens and supportive agencies and councils. Together they worked hard to create Camp Long and protect its natural beauty.
