The City purchased the property in 1987 from the estate of master landscaper Fujito Kubota, a horticultural pioneer who began using Japanese design techniques and American materials in 1927. Set among spectacular hills and valleys, the garden is interlaced with streams, waterfalls, ponds, bridges, and rock outcroppings.
