Featured Job: Park Engineer (Manager 3)

Seattle Parks and Recreation seeks a well-rounded engineering professional with a diversity of experience and educational credentials that will allow him/her to effectively respond to the wide variety of situations and technical questions that arise daily within our extensive park system. This position also effectively supervise a variety of technical and administrative staff engaged in such activities. Deadline to apply is February12, 2019.

You will be a working manager, supervising the activities of a close-knit crew of landscape architects, architect, engineer, environmental analysts, surveyors, and administrative staff, as well as producing your own personal work products when appropriate. Work done by you and your team will include, among others: 

  • Technical oversight and support for the entire Seattle Parks and Recreation system
  • Design for parks/facility improvements
  • Survey services
  • Environmental analysis services
  • Review of consultant designs
  • Public works construction contracting and inspection
  • Condition assessments
  • Standards development
  • Engineering records management
  • And much more

You will also serve as the technical liaison to all other City Departments, as well as other government and private entities

Your working environment is 

Requirements for this position: ten (10) years professional engineering experience; five (5) years supervisory experience; a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline; registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington or other state with licensing comity to State of Washington; and a current, valid driver's license.

The successful candidate will possess most or all of the qualities and credentials described on the application page. Among them are: 

  • Expertise/familiarity with multiple engineering, survey, and/or scientific fields
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff with different technical skills and educational background than your own
  • Design/construction background related to numerous environments, systems and locations
  • Familiarity with electrical distribution system design/requirements as related to civil construction, both primary and secondary systems
  • Familiarity with geotechnical concepts and soil/slope stability concerns, especially with respect to steep slopes and landslide-prone areas

  • Familiarity with environmental agencies and regulations
  • Experience using AutoCAD or Civil3D
