Othello Park Improvements Phase III
Updated: January 5, 2017
The project is currently in the design phase with contract bidding anticipated in late spring 2017. In order to avoid impacts to summer programs and festivals in the park, construction is currently scheduled to begin in late summer 2017. During project construction the eastern portion of the park including the sport courts, playground and comfort station will be closed to public access.

King County 2013 Park Levy provides $500,000 for the play area renovation.
The Parks and Green Spaces Levy Opportunity Fund allocates $547,000 for the planning, design and construction of basketball court improvements, wayfinding medallions, and landscaping improvements that incorporate CPTED (crime prevention through environmental design) goals.
Both projects are combined under one construction project to provide for greater efficiencies and reduce construction impacts to the park.
Design: Spring 2016 - Spring 2017
Construction: Late Summer - Winter 2017/18
Completion: Winter 2017/18
This project was selected for the second round of Parks and Green Spaces Levy Opportunity Funding. The application received in this community-initiated process is a preliminary concept and the final design may be constrained by the project budget. All projects will go through Park’s public involvement procedure which includes public meetings and community input. They will also go through an internal Parks process to ensure the most effective implementation.
The Othello Park Improvements project includes playground renovation, basketball court improvements, new benches and game tables, pathway way-finding markers and miscellaneous pavement replacement. The play area renovation will include a central plaza seating area, new play equipment and a new sand & nature play space. The existing zip line will remain and swings will be replaced with new equipment to meet current safety standards.
The Park Improvements project is being completed in conjunction with a separate project to upgrade the park's irrigation system.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the public meetings in the summer of 2015. Johnson Sutherland and Parks staff presented the goals and overview of the play area renovation and the Opportunity Fund project.
