E. C. Hughes Playground Renovation

Updated: September 3, 2019

Summer/Fall 2019

Construction is underway! L.W. Sundstrom is the contractor working on the play area renovation. The demolition is mostly complete and utility connections will begin in September. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of this year.

We anticipated keeping the play equipment available for public use, however we discovered that a portion of the playground needed to be removed for safety reasons. The good news is the site improvements are funded and the construction contract was awarded to L.W. Sundstrom, Inc. Construction began in August and will last through December. Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we make these improvements.

Thank you to everyone who attended the second public meeting on June 13 and gave input on desired final changes to the preferred design. Meeting notes and presentation documents are available for viewing below.

The first meeting, held on April 19, was an opportunity to learn about the project and provide input on play equipment and play area design.

The play area renovation will update play equipment with play structures accessible to children of all abilities, ages 2-5 and 5-12. Additionally, the project will enhance safety and improve play area accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
