PROJECT STATUS

Thank you Seattle! This project is complete.

A grand opening celebration was held on May 12, 2007.

Chief Sealth Trail projected was implemented by Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) with support of $2.1 million for the trails project from the Pro Parks Levy.

SDOT is managing this trails project in Southeast Seattle. See the SDOT project webpage.

The first phase of the trail runs through the Seattle City Light Utility Corridor, and traverses southeast Seattle from Beacon Hill to 51st Ave S at S Gazelle St.

BUDGET	The Pro Parks Levy provides $2,100,000 project costs of planning, design and construction.
SCHEDULE	Planning: 2004 Construction: 2004-2006 Completion: Fall 2006

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

"Continue improvements and connections of Chief Sealth Trail."

The Chief Sealth Trail will be the first off-street, multi-use trail in southeast Seattle. When completed, the trail will stretch from Beacon Avenue South on the north to Seattle's southern city limits. The project will provide access to Sound Transit LINK Light Rail stations at South Othello and South Henderson Streets.

The trail will provide a fully-separated surface and appeal to a broad range of users (cyclists, pedestrians and wheelchair users) as an alternative to the city street system.

Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) held two community open houses regarding the trail project in December 2004.See press release for more information.

In October 2004 SDOT held two meetings to discuss the plans for trail construction:
- October 14 at The Gathering Hall at New Holly.
- October 18 at Dearborn Park Elementary School.
