Thank you Seattle! This project is complete.
Construction fencing was removed in different phases to protect the turf, with fencing around the Sports Meadow on the Beacon Reservoir lid coming down in summer 2011.
The future Beacon Mountain play area remains fenced off while in construction.
Parks opened the play area and the tennis courts to the public in August 2010.
Seattle Parks and The Berger Partnership gave a community update on construction and answered community questions at three public meetings during the first half of 2010.
Parks gave MidMountain Contractors notice to proceed with construction on June 13, 2009.
Phase Two (Jefferson Park Improvements), a separate project looking at ways to improve Jefferson Play Field to include synthetic turf and lighting, is currently in construction.
Phase Three (Jefferson Park Skatepark Development), funded in part by the Parks and Green Spaces Levy will include a skatepark, basketball court, and possibly additional parking at the community center.
Components in the park include:
PROJECT DESCRIPTIONThis project will construct park improvements in a 43–acre area of Jefferson Park / Beacon Reservoir. Project background, scope, schedule, budget and other information are described in the design program .
The improvements will be consistent with the direction established in the Jefferson Park Site Plan (JPG 750k) - developed, with substantial community participation, between 2000 and 2002. See the site planning web page for information on the planning process. The project area is generally bounded by 15th Ave S, S. Spokane St, Beacon Ave S, Jefferson driving range, and the S. Dakota St. service drive, Mercer Middle School and 16th Ave S. It includes North Beacon Reservoir and South Beacon Reservoir.
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) plans to decommission the north reservoir and reconstruct the south reservoir as a buried reservoir with a hard cover. Park improvements will be made in the footprint of the north reservoir, above the buried south reservoir, and in adjacent areas. While the park and reservoir design/construction efforts will be conducted separately, they will be closely coordinated.
