PROJECT STATUS

Thank you, Seattle. This project is complete!

The project is in the final stages of design. The design includes new pathways, shoreline erosion control, habitat improvements, viewing and picnic areas, and new planting. The project is on schedule to be constructed during the summer of 2007.

BUDGET	The Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund provides $150,000 for this park development project. A grant from King County provides $75,000 for this park development.

Haller Lake is a small lake in north Seattle. This project will improve public access to the west side of the lake, along the North 125th Street right-of-way. Community priorities include restoration of the eroding shoreline, and creation of a small park where people can picnic and birdwatch. Winter visitors include coots, shovelers, buffleheads, ruddy ducks, mergansers, gadwalls, and cormorants.

The lake is also occasionally stocked with fish and the park is intended to accommodate the fishing that already takes place at the street end.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

The community submitted this project through the first cycle of the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund, but it was not selected through that process.

The Haller Lake Community Club secured a small and simple Neighborhood Matching grant and conducted a public process to create the draft plan for the park.

The community then obtained the support and endorsement of six neighborhood groups and successfully submitted the project through the second cycle of the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund.
