PROJECT STATUSThank you Seattle! Phase one of this project is complete!
The community enjoyed the opening of the garden on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 with a celebration that reflected the five regions represented in the garden. These regions are Chile, China, New Zealand, Australia and Cascadia. Music, storytelling and the Seattle Chinese Community Drill Team helped usher in this fabulous new addition to the arboretum.
Construction for this project began in fall 2007 with completion days prior to the community celebration.
Design of Phase II is underway! Please visit the Parks and Green Spaces page. This will include development
of three focal forests:
Currently, funding is being raised by the Arboretum Foundation for this phase. Construction will begin when funding is complete.Environmental Documents

The Master Plan for “Renewing the Washington Park Arboretum” was adopted by the City and UW Regents in May 2001. The three identified projects are being funded by the Pro Parks Levy.
A consultant team, led by the Portico Group, completed design on phase one of the Pacific Connections project. A consultant team lead by the Berger Partnership is completing design of Phase II.
This Master Plan project will improve approximately 12 acres at the southern entry to the Arboretum by renovating an existing rockery; developing several eco-geographic exhibits; establishing new trails; and constructing a 300-square-foot shelter and 30-space parking lot.
