Property in the West Seattle Junction was nominated for acquisition through
the first funding cycle of the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund by West Seattle
Junction citizens.
In September 2005, $200,000 was approved toward park development of the
site through the second funding cycle of the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity
Fund.
In the 2001 Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund nomination,
citizens wrote: "The West Seattle Junction Hub Urban Village Neighborhood
Plan emphasizes the need to create and develop opportunities for public
open space to provide additional "Breathing Room" in the Junction planning
area." "West Seattle has a vision of turning a weed-filled vacant lot
into an urban plaza that will be a gathering place for people of all ages
who live, work, shop and play in the Junction."
The West Seattle Chamber of Commerce also endorsed this project.
