AQUATICS LIFEGUARD - Temporary Employment

Seattle Parks and Recreation is currently recruiting for Temporary Lifeguards for Rainier Beach Pool, as well as the other seven indoor pools in Seattle. Rainier Beach is a facility that opened in September 2013.
Current Red Cross Lifeguard certification is required, and candidates must be at least 16 years old to apply (link to apply is below). 
Part time work hours are available. Position wage starts at $15.93/hr.

  1. Must be at least *15 years old prior to the first class, able to swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating crawl and breast stroke, able to retrieve a 10 pound object from a minimum depth of 7 feet within the specified time limit.

Lifeguard Pay First Step: $15.17

All temporary employees are paid a percentage of their salary as premium pay in addition to their regular hourly rate. Premium pay is in lieu of base level of vacation and all other fringe benefits. 
** $15.17 + 5% premium pay is $15.93 (2013 pay rates)

* Must be 16 years old to work for Seattle Parks and Recreation


Required qualifications

  1. American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid
  2. American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Lifeguard
  3. Northwest Lifeguard Test
  4. 16 years old

Desired qualifications

  1. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification
  2. Lifeguard Training Instructor (LGI) Certification

  1. Pass Background check
  2. Pass Physical provided by City of Seattle

The Lifeguard Training Team is a FREE Program designed to train and certify Seattle's Youth in Lifesaving Skills.
This eight-week program is open to teens age 15-17.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training

This class will prepare youth and adults 15 years and older to become lifeguards. The course will include CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard Training. This certification is required for those who wish to work as a lifeguard.
Offered as a traditional classroom or blended learning course. Blended learning requires computer and broadband internet access to complete online coursework.

Fee: $125 (Course fee only; requires a $35 Red Cross Certification fee)
**Additional purchase of pocket mask required.

Medgar Evers Pool
Blended learning - requires computer access
April 14 - April 17
10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
April 18 - Optional Northwest Test Prep
10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Pretest date: April 7
6 p.m.

Southwest Pool

Northwest Lifeguard Test Prep Course
The purpose of this course is to review the skills needed to pass the Northwest Lifeguard Certification Test (NWLCT), a water skills test required for employment as a lifeguard with Seattle Parks and Recreation.
