Payment Card International (PCI) Credit Card Compliance

Constituents can pay for an increasing number of City services, fees, and fines with their credit card, oftentimes, right here on Seattle.gov. The credit card companies have formed an alliance known as the Payment Card International (PCI) and issued a "data security standard" for "merchants" like the City who take credit cards over the web. This standard is a rigorous set of best practices designed to safeguard cardholder information.

The City is pleased to announce that it has been declared PCI compliant by our bank, Wells-Fargo. Seattle is in fact the first City of its size to be declared PCI compliant. The "Credit Card Guard" site seal that you clicked on to get here was issued to the City and attests to the security level of the City's web applications. Securing websites from malicious attackers is always going to be an evolving challenge. The City of Seattle takes this challenge very seriously and will continue to strive to live up to the high expectations of its constituents.
