Aurora Avenue Urban Design

Project Purpose

In 2009:

  • We explored development and streetscape improvement possibilities for the Aurora Avenue corridor between Green Lake (N. 72nd Street) and N. 90th Street.
  • We participated in a neighborhood-driven effort to determine how to improve the neighborhood by figuring out how to make businesses more successful, cleaning up the neighborhood and making it beautiful, and improving Rapid Ride transit facilities.

Products & Findings

Status: On hold
The study has been drafted but is not anticipated to be published.

Outcomes

  • We hosted three public meetings in winter 2008 – 2009 to generate ideas and share draft recommendations for land use and streetscape improvements. No further actions are expected. The study is available for future use of the neighborhood and city.
  • One bus stop just south of 85th Street was improved with more area due to a partial street closure at 84th Street, which also aided in traffic safety by reducing cut-through traffic.
