Sihanoukville, Cambodia

Sister City since 1999

The Seattle-Sihanoukville Sister City Association is Seattle's 21st sister city. SEASIH is an active community-based organization. Its projects have included fund raising to build a primary school in a village in Sihanoukville province; funding a library at a high school in Sihanoukville; partnering with medical organizations for international outreach in rural towns; coordinating a school pen pal exchange program; sponsoring an educational forum on Cambodia, including trade and investment opportunities; hosting Cambodian representatives and sponsoring meetings with local and state officials. SEASIH is an adamant proponent of local engagement within Pacific Northwest communities. The organization plays a crucial part in developing the Cambodian American population and cultivating opportunities for higher education students.

Sihanoukville, Cambodia's fourth largest city, has a population of 200,000. Sihanoukville plays an important role as Cambodia's major seaport and principal coastal tourist resort. The city is growing faster and developing more rapidly than most other regions in the country. Trade between the Port of Sihanoukville and Port of Seattle trade is robust and Cambodia is in the top 30 trading partners for the Port of Seattle. Sihanoukville is a haven for tourists, who visit to scuba dive, snorkel, and explore the surrounding offshore islands.
