February 2014 Events

February 3, 2014.  9:30-11:00 AM, City Council Chambers, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 600 4th Avenue, Seattle, WA. Public briefing of the Seattle City Council. All members of the general public are welcome. A 45-minute presentation on preschool will start at approximately 10:00 AM. Download the flyer.

January 2014 Events

January 2014. BERK Consulting, a Seattle-based strategic planning and business consulting firm, was awarded the contract to develop the Preschool for All Action (Universal Prekindergarten) Plan.

January 6, 2014. The Comprehensive Universal Preschool Parent / Guardian Survey Request for Proposal (RFP) was released. The purpose of the survey is to elicit input from parents / guardians in order to discover the reasons why the respondents' children do or do not attend preschool and how many of those whose children do not currently attend preschool would likely enroll their children if high-quality preschool were available and affordable. January 17, 2014. The first meeting was held between project consultants, the Office for Education, and the individuals who will lead workgroups in gathering information about existing services for Seattle preschoolers. The workgroups will meet a minimum of three times between this date and March 31, 2014. The public is welcome to observe these meetings (see Calendar for times and locations); however, they are not set up to accept direct public input. Please direct any questions about the workgroup meetings to Preschool for All Project Manager Erica Johnson, 206-684-8478. NOTE: Meetings designed to obtain direct community input will also be held in March.

January 24, 2014. Community meetings to provide information about Preschool for All and obtain community input are being scheduled in March at three locations: Neighborhood House - High Point in West Seattle, Northgate, and Southeast Seattle. Food, childcare, and interpretation services will be provided, if requested. Advance registration is required. Dates, times and exact locations will be announced as they become available here on this website. Contact Rachel Schulkin for more information.

January 24, 2014. The Gap Analysis Report requested by the Seattle City Council is now available. The purpose of this report is to identify how many 3- and 4-year-olds are enrolled in each child care and preschool program in Seattle; how many are not enrolled in any formal child care or preschool program; the demographic makeup of each of these groups; and the reasons why the children do or do not attend preschool. 2013 Events

September 23, 2013. Resolution 31478 establishing the City Council's goal of making voluntary, high-quality preschool available and affordable to all of Seattle's children and outlining an initial plan toward achieving this goal was adopted by the full Council. Read the full Resolution.

October 25, 2013. The Request for Proposals for a consultant to Develop a Voluntary Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) Action Plan and Financial Model was released.
