Canceled: Stewart Street Weekend Closure

The planned closure of Stewart Street between Third and Fourth avenues from Friday, July 31, to Monday, August 3 for paving has been canceled due to high temperatures and will be rescheduled for next weekend.

Stewart Street continues to be restricted to one lane for all traffic between Westlake and Second avenues and is open for buses only from 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays. This configuration will remain in effect through late August while SDOT’s contractor continues work on paving.

Stewart Street is a main entry point into downtown from southbound I-5. Drivers of vehicles other than buses who normally use the Stewart Street exit may want to take exits at Mercer, Union or James streets during this traffic revision.

For information or questions about transit service, please call Metro Transit customer service at: 206-553-3000, or visit Metro Transit online at: http://www.Kingcounty.gov/metro.

SDOT is coordinating the various downtown construction projects and working with its paving contractors to minimize traffic impacts as much as possible. The downtown paving program will substantially improve these heavily traveled streets in this area for everyone.

For more information on downtown paving, please see SDOT’s Website at http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/2009_2010_pave.htm

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $12 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
