Reminder: Second Avenue Paving Continues
Traffic Congestion Expected to Increase for Next Four Weeks

SEATTLE -Drivers and bicyclists who use Second Avenue in downtown Seattle should plan their trips carefully, allow extra time, and consider alternate routes starting tomorrow, July 14, and for the next four weeks. The Seattle Department of Transportation is paving Second Avenue, one of several downtown streets being improved this summer.

SDOT’s contractor is restricting Second Avenue to two lanes and tomorrow will shift work to the east side of the street between Pike Street and South Washington Street. With only two lanes available, and buses loading in the curb lane, only one lane will effectively be open to through traffic.

Work will progress on Second Avenue from north to south, from Pike Street to S Washington Street.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $12 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
