Seattle cuts energy use in partnership with local company
Costs and power consumption go down

SEATTLE – The City of Seattle has cut the energy use of its desktop computers by 35.4 percent since its move to power management software from local vendor Verdiem. The Surveyor software from Verdiem reduces power to computers when they are not in use. Early estimates indicate the city can save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to more than 200 passenger vehicles or 100 homes a year. The city will realize an annual savings on 8,031 computers of $9.25 per computer.

The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) builds and operates technology tools and systems that support the missions of every department in city government. DoIT manages the Seattle Channel and www.seattle.gov, the city’s web site work, to keep Seattleites informed, give them access to services, and allow them to participate in governing.
