Update: Stewart Street Paving this Weekend

SEATTLE-SDOT's contractor will close all but one lane of Stewart Street from Minor Avenue to Sixth Avenue this weekend. The restriction will be in place from 6 p.m. Friday, May 8 until 6 a.m. Monday, May 11. During the same time Seventh Avenue will be closed to southbound traffic at Virginia Street, and a detour provided. Travel will be maintained from westbound Stewart Street to southbound Seventh Avenue. Local access will be maintained.

Virginia Street and 9th Avenue will serve as the detour route, and uniformed police officers will be present to keep traffic moving as much as possible.

The schedule for some of the work may be changed if weather conditions require.

This weekend, the contractor will be removing and replacing concrete on the north side of Stewart. The entire project will include paving Stewart Street from Eastlake Avenue to First Avenue.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $12 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
