Early Morning, University Bridge Closures Still Scheduled for April

SEATTLE- SDOT's contractor who is painting the University Bridge will need full bridge closures on at least three consecutive weekends in April - in order to paint parts of the bridge that are not accessible when traffic is present. The contractor will close the bridge to all traffic (motor vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians) from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday, and from midnight Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, on the weekends of April 11 -12, April 18 - 19, and April 25 - 26. Alternate bridges over the ship canal that can be used during the closures include the Montlake Bridge, the I- 5 Ship Canal Bridge (no pedestrians or bicycles), the Aurora Bridge, and the Fremont Bridge.

The contractor continues to work on alternating sides of the bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.

For more information about the project, please see SDOT's Website at http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/universitybridge_painting.htm

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $12 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels' goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
