Weekend Work Canceled on First Ave S

SEATTLE--Work scheduled for this weekend on First Avenue South has been canceled due to unforseen circumstances; therefore at least two northbound lanes and one southbound lane will remain open between S Stacy and S Horton streets. (SDOT previously announced that only one northbound lane would be open. See yesterday's release, attached.)

Also, earlier today SDOT sent out a notice that E Marginal Way S may not be a good alternative route to First Ave S on Monday or Tuesday, March 2 and 3, because of the possibility of traffic backups near Terminal 46. Enforcement of new federal identification card (TWIC) requirements begins this weekend, and any traffic backups that could result would most likely occur on Monday or Tuesday when traffic volumes are higher than during the weekend. Other alternates are Fourth Avenue South and Airport Way South.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $12 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
