Construction closes one lane on Mercer today

Update: SDOT expects that the contractor working on the north side of Mercer Street will begin the lane closure at 10 a.m. tomorrow. (See the previous release below.)

SEATTLE-One lane in the center of Mercer Street at Boren Avenue will be closed today until 3 p.m. to allow a contractor to make an emergency repair on a sewer line under the street. This unplanned work will resume at 8 p.m. tonight and continue until 5 a.m. tomorrow morning. If more work is needed, they will return after 8 p.m. tomorrow night.

The emergency lane closure delayed the work of another contractor that had planned to begin a two-to three week, around the clock lane closure today on the north side of Mercer from just west of Westlake Avenue N, past Terry Avenue N. They now plan to begin this closure during the day tomorrow.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
