Golden Gardens Drive is Open Again

SEATTLE-Golden Gardens Drive Northwest opened to the public today, in time for the weekend. Golden Gardens Park and the waterfront are once again accessible from the east, at the top of the hill and off of NW 85th Street.

Golden Gardens Drive was shut down in December 2007 after record-breaking rainfall saturated the region and caused a section of the road to collapse. While the road was closed, entrance to the park was limited to Seaview Avenue Northwest at the waterfront.

SDOT’s contractor has completed building a retaining wall, installed a new guardrail, replanted the hillside, and paved the damaged section of roadway. Final touches will be added this spring, including bicycle markings and signage.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
