Fireworks Will Usher in the New Year, Motorists should plan for traffic delays around the Seattle Center

(SEATTLE)--On New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, December 31, a crowd of up to 10,000 is expected to gather at the base of the Space Needle to mark the start of 2009 and watch the annual Space Needle fireworks show. During the show, 5th Avenue at Broad Street and Broad Street at 5th Avenue will be closed from 11:45 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Seattle Police officers will direct traffic.

The Seattle Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan on heavy traffic at the Space Needle and on the streets surrounding the Seattle Center.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
