One Block of Eighth Avenue to be Closed 16 Days

SEATTLE - Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday morning, January 5, 8th Avenue will be closed from Virginia to Lenora Street for 16 days, until January 20. On the weekends of January 10-11 and January 17-18, Virginia will also be closed between 7th and 9th avenues. During the closure, Ness Cranes will be dismantling a large crane at the Westlake Plaza project located at 2001 8th Avenue. Police will continue to have access to the West Precinct via 9th Avenue, Virginia Street and 8th Avenue. The street closures are necessary for safety reasons due to the size of the crane and location.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
