Stewart Street Change Improves Third Avenue Sidewalk Space

(SEATTLE)--The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has added a contra-flow lane on Stewart Street to provide more sidewalk space on Third Avenue. A half-block long between Second and Third avenues, the new contra-flow lane allows cars to exit Macy’s parking garage and travel eastbound on Stewart instead of exiting on Third Avenue. The change permits garage entrances and exits on Third Avenue to be closed, improving bus operations and providing more space for bus passengers and pedestrians.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
