Fall Arrives but Weekend Fun Continues
Motorists should plan for possible traffic delays

SEATTLE - Over the coming weekend, September 26-28, several festivals and games will draw crowds in the thousands. On Friday afternoon a sidewalk event called AVEventure will take place in the University district and that night a rally led by the Husky Band will wind through streets north of the campus. On Saturday safety will be the focus on Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, while Ballard will celebrate sustainability on Saturday and Sunday. The Seattle Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan on heavy traffic around these and other weekend activities. The department encourages motorists to reduce their “carbon footprint” and save money by traveling to the weekend events via bus, cycling or, if appropriate, walking.

Friday, September 26
AVEventure 2008: 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
7,500 expected
Event will occur on the sidewalks of University Way NE (NE 41st St - NE 52nd St). Motorists should expect congestion in the area.

Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics Baseball Game: 7:10 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
30,000 expected
Expect congestion around Safeco Field before and after the game.

Husky Band Friday Night Pre-Game Rally Parade: 9 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Seattle Police will escort the band from the University of Washington campus and the parade will wind back and forth on the streets around Greek Row.

Saturday, September 27
Martin Luther King, Jr. Way Safety Street Fair: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
2,500 expected
Streets closed from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.: Martin Luther King, Jr. Way (S Othello St - S Graham St). Motorists will be able to follow detours in the area.

Sustainable Ballard Fall Festival: 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
2,000 expected
Streets closed adjacent to the Ballard Commons Park at NW 57th St: 22nd Ave NW (NW 57th St - NW 58th St) and NW 57th St (22nd Ave NW - 24th Ave NW). Closure will occur from 8 a.m. on Saturday to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics Baseball Game: 1:10 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
30,000 expected
Expect congestion around Safeco Field before and after the game.

Men - Stepping Up for Life, Youth & Family Walk: 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.
1,000 participants
Walk will be escorted by police starting at 28th Avenue S and S Dearborn. It will head north on 28th Ave S to S Jackson St, then proceed west on Jackson to 23rd Avenue S, north on 23rd Ave S to Madison, and then west on Madison to 14th Ave S.

University of Washington Huskies vs. Stanford Cardinals Football Game: 7 p.m. - 11 p.m.
60,000 expected
To be held at the University of Washington’s Husky Stadium. Expect congestion on I-5 approaching the University district and on all arterials leading to Husky Stadium.

Sunday, September 28
Summer Sundays on Pike Place: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
1,000 expected
Streets surrounding Pike Place Market may have heavy traffic.

Sustainable Ballard Fall Festival: 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
2,000 expected
Streets closed adjacent to the Ballard Commons Park at NW 57th St: 22nd Ave NW (NW 57th St - NW 58th St) and NW 57th St (22nd Ave NW - 24th Ave NW). Closure will be in effect until 7 p.m.
