Update: Nighttime work on First Avenue South

SEATTLE-SDOT’s contractor will pave First Avenue South from South Hudson Street to South Spokane Street at night this week, keeping one lane open in each direction. The crews will perform this work from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m, Wednesday to Friday, August 27 to 29, weather permitting.

Other work will continue on First Avenue during the day. There will be occasional lane closures during daytime off-peak hours.

From September 2 to 11, the contractor plans to work between South Stacy Street and South Dearborn Street at night, grinding off the old roadway surface, repairing the base of the street, and performing preliminary paving. One lane will remain open in each direction from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
