Seattle Animal Shelter celebrates the 93rd Annual
“Be Kind to Animals Week” May 5 to 10
SEATTLE -- Take a look around and you’ll see animals everywhere. And now is a perfect time to make the world a better place for our chirping, barking, meowing, and mooing friends. Join the Seattle Animal Shelter in celebrating the 93nd annual “Be Kind to Animals Week,” May 5 to 10.
“This week represents a wonderful tradition of recognizing people whose love of animals leads them to actively work to improve the lives of animals everywhere,” says Seattle Animal Shelter Director Don Jordan. “It’s also time to reflect on the happiness and joy companion animals bring to our lives. Through the work of local animal shelters such as ours, we will continue to spread the word about the joys and responsibilities of pet ownership. This week is dedicated to all who are committed to improving the lives of all animals and people in our communities every day of the year.”
In honor of this week, the Seattle Animal Shelter encourages all families to spend more time appreciating their companion animals and offers suggestions for ways to show kindness to the animals that don’t live in your house:
• Encourage family and friends to spay or neuter their pets
• Create a unique space for wildlife
• Report animal abuse or neglect
• Volunteer at your local animal shelter
• Speak out on the importance of respecting animals.
“Be Kind to Animals Week” is promoted nationally by the American Humane Association. Founded in 1877, the American Humane Association is the nation’s oldest organization dedicated to protecting both children and animals. Visit www.americanhumane.org to learn more.
The Seattle Animal Shelter is located at 2061 - 15th Ave. W., approximately one mile south of the Ballard Bridge. The shelter is open everyday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for licensing, and from noon to 6 p.m. for adoptions. You may also view adoptable companion animals at www.seattleanimalshelter.org.
